Setting up the EcoGarden is going to be hard work.

The plan is to ask for volunteers from staff, parents and students to join us on Saturday 10th November to lay pathways, dig over beds and build some raised beds.

Look at some of the beds below - what would be the best style for us?

It's worth uconsidering things like cost, expertise needed for installation and maintenance. Is it expensive, can we do it ourselves and will it need treating every year?

I like the style of the vegetable beds in the 1st and 2nd photo and I think they would blend in really well with the rest of the garden.

They also don't look to difficult to make wheras the last two look vastly more complicated.

Clara is there a budget for this project as that will impact on the nature of the raised beds, design etc?

We have a seperate budget that would allow for a decent design to be installed providing it is practical. At the moment I am leaning towards buying in recycled railway sleepers - very eco friendly!

That would be my choice too- bricks are quite environmentally costly as I understand it. Railway sleepers look good although will need plenty of volunteers to position them...
Plenty of peat-free compost suppliers such as :

(other suppliers are available!)

There is a company next to Toby Carvery called Winfields that sell reclaimed railway sleepers so they are very local.

I think that it is really good that we are using natural wood from such a local source to create the raised beds.

I think the natural wood that we used for the raised beds looks really good and it is also very eco friendly which is what we want our garden to be.

Rest assured, I will not name the mushroom tent the 'shroom shack'. Any good suggestions for a magnificant title I should give this marvel of mushroom magnificence?

We could use old junk like baths, fridges and car tires as additonal/temporary raised beds, could be difficult to transport though, just a thought. Besides, seedlings in Miss Nugents classroom has began to grow! Hooray!
