I think reminding people to turn off lights around school and in classrooms would be a good place to start to saving energy.

I absolutely agree James - the question becomes how are we going to do that in an encouraging and non-intrusive manner and how can we further raise awareness? It might be an idea to take electricity meter readings and then work on an aspect of energy saving for a month before retaking readings and then presenting our finding in a chapel assembly? Something to think about...

We could stick on signs on the doors reminding people about switching lights off i.e. 'Have you switched off the lights?'. Although some people won't bother to switch the lights off anyway, the difference will still be big because of the people who do switch off lights after usage.

It might be worth looking into devices like occupancy sensors which would turn off lights in rooms which are empty. I know that these are already used in the Wells centre corridors. Perhaps we could inquire as to where the school got them from and the cost it would take to install them.

I also wondered if it may be possible to persuade the people who run business challenge to set it on energy saving ideas or energy saving devices. This way we can get more ideas that come from the persepective of those with financial mindsets.

in Philippines they made lights without the use of electricity by using one litre bottles of purified water with some bleach. For more information go onto this link http://phys.org/news/2011-09-bottle-brighten-millions-poor-homes.html
